Garteig & Canucks Lose To Edmonton – The Vancouver Canucks prospects with former BCHL’er Michael Garteig in net rallied late with two 3rd period goals, but ultimately fell to the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 in OT to end the 2017 Young Stars Classic Tournament played in Penticton B.C..
It was a bit of a homecoming for Garteig who won the BCHL Top Goaltender Awards in 2011 and 2012, and was a member of the 2012 Royal Bank Cup-winning Penticton Vees team.
Following Junior A, he suited up for the Quinnipiac Bobcats, leading the Bobcats to the ECAC and the NCAA championship in his final season. He finished the season with a 32-4-7 record, a .924 save percentage and 1.91 goals against average. During his four seasons with Quinnipiac, he amassed a record of 78-25-16 with a 1.98 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.
After his fourth year at Quinnipiac University, Garteig signed a one-year entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks.
