At first I thought that this video would be comical, but when he starts to sing you realize that he’s a good singer and that this is really heartfelt. You can tell by how the lyric sheets tremble and how he shifts from side to side that he’s nervous, and that, with the fact that this is first You Tube video, takes it to a different place.
Also for everyone not familiar with the Newfoundland accent here’s the lyrics:

NHL Lockout Song

Don’t seem like winter with hockey not here
Grandpa would say as he sipped on his beer
They’ve all gotten greedy, I ‘spose that’s the cause
Hockey is not like it was

(knock, knock, knock) Any hockey players ‘lowed on?

Hark what’s that noise, out on the back rink
Grandpa ’tis locked-out players I think
His old weathered face brightens up from a frown
Any players, nice players ‘lowed on?

Jump on the ice and don’t bother the snow
We can scrape it all off sure after you go
Skate if you can on a line with the “Kid”
Lets see if we know who ya is

There’s goalies, and forwards, and defense too
Even players from the St. Louis Blues
Names on their backs ‘n sticks in their hands
They don’t have their fans in the stands

There’s only one there that I think I’ve met
That young fella standing o’er long side the net
He’s shakin’ his glove for to make me not say
Must be Cleary from Trinity Bay

Now that one’s a Habs fan if there ever was one
He’s braggin of 24 cups that they’ve won
Is he dreamin of raisin’ Lord Stanley once more
Let’s hope it don’t ever occur

Hold on to that Bettman and give him a smack
And tell him to give us our hockey game back
No need for to care if you damage his face
He has to be put in his place

My God how late is it, we’d better run
We’ve got a contract that needs to be done
Good night and good Christmas, players me dears
Please god we’ll have hockey next year

Good night and good Christmas, players me dears
Please god we’ll have hockey next year
